Position Description:

Project leadership in the delivery of technical and analytical services related to traffic engineering including field studies, traffic impact studies, traffic signal timing, technology and alternatives analysis, planning, design, contract documentation preparation (plans, specifications and cost estimates) and implementation management for public infrastructure agencies with a focus benefiting the traveling public.  This position encourages versatility in working with a variety of stakeholders and clients in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Effective written and oral communication with project team members and with clients is a strength required for this position.  The position will direct and coordinate various engineering disciplines, internal and external to the company.  Travel within the tri-state area is required to serve client needs.

 

Responsibilities:

Responsible for performing all aspects of traffic engineering and design.

Comprehensive understanding of principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices and standards and their application.

Run a project team including internal and external resources, organize a vision into a project work plan, take initiative to achieve project goals with minimal direction, deliver work that can be implemented and valuable to the client.

Monitor, forecast and communicate project health metrics including deliverable products, schedule, resources, quality, budget and compliance.

Maintain effective communication and responsiveness with project team members across disciplines and with the client through all phases of project execution, including business development through project close-out.

Evaluate project goals and develop plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules for use during project construction.

Perform detailed analysis of traffic flow theory, generating measures of effectiveness, identifying bottlenecks, predicting demand and traffic congestion, testing alternatives and systemwide effects.

Direct design activities of traffic signals, signs, pavement markings, intelligent transportation systems and lighting to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and client requirements.

Direct and coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations.

Support company operations by creating structure, ensuring compliance, and coaching others to achieve excellence.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.

At least 5 years related experience is required.

Knowledge of ITE, NEMA, NCHRP, MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO standards and practices required. Familiarity with Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland design standards desired.

Must be proficient in Synchro, HCS, Microsoft Office. Experience with ArcGIS and/or Apple applications a plus.

Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills, time management, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in project teams. A self-starter requiring minimal supervisory oversight.

Valid driver’s license.

Position Description:

Senior engineer must have a strong grasp of all aspects of traffic engineering, with special expertise in specific areas. They should possess the knowledge necessary to keep their tasks moving forward or know where to find the answers. A successful Senior Traffic engineer will have the ability to use technical expertise to achieve project goals; effectively complete high-value final products; effectively communicate technical information to clients and colleagues and be a sought-after resource in existing and proposed projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Have a mastery of traffic engineering
  • Assist project managers in driving projects forward both by completing assignments and by assigning work to others
  • Assist project managers in developing scopes and estimates
  • Accept and provide direction and constructive criticism
  • Be flexible and willing to work on tasks prioritized by project managers
  • Communicate clearly and effectively
  • Be reliable and on time for all scheduled activities
  • Be organized with record keeping
  • Take initiative to complete products that exceed client expectations
  • Mentor traffic engineers
  • Take advantage of opportunities for technical growth, such as conferences and webinars
  • Stay informed on the latest traffic engineering standards, references, and technologies
