Job Description: The Smart Mobility Program Manager performs highly responsible administrative and professional work in directing the day-to-day activities and implementation of the Smart Mobility
Program. The employee in this class is responsible for coordinating of a number of smart mobility programs across the City, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects, Adaptive Traffic Signals, and Transit Signal & Emergency Vehicle Priority systems. The employee will work closely with the Department of Information Technology to integrate data from Smart Mobility with other City functions.
The Program Manager is responsible for collaborating with departments across the city as well as regional and private partners to implement and ensure the success of this program. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Division Chief of Traffic Engineering within the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services and is performed with considerable latitude for independent judgment.

Montgomery County Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineer III/II/I (Advanced Transportation Management System) Grade 25/22/19  (Posted on November 14, 2018)

Job Description:

The Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations is looking for an Engineer for its Transportation Management Section, Transportation Management Center at 1300 Quince Orchard Blvd, Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee. Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

The employee will be responsible for:

  • Performing program-specific services/tasks relating to traffic and transportation management systems;
  • Providing program oversight and coordination for MCDOTs Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS), the Traffic Signal System Modernization (TSSM) and the Traffic Signal System capital improvement projects;
  • Developing and managing tasks and assignments performed by both in-house and contract support staff;
  • Developing and managing designs, specifications, and system requirements;
  • Track funding and contracts;
  • Managing the planning, construction, installation and support of the ATMS, TSSM and Traffic Signal programs as well as for emerging technologies including Connected Vehicles (Vehicle to Vehicle, Vehicle to Infrastructure, Infrastructure to Vehicle, etc.), Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and Adaptive Traffic Signal Control (ATSC).  Many of these new or emerging technologies will cross over between the multiple capital projects requiring this position to manage the planning and funding between these multiple projects;
  • Coordinate activities with the Transportation Management Center, the Technical Center and other work units within the Section, Division and Department;
  • Answer telephone inquiries, write letters and emails, and respond to other agency/citizen requests related to assigned projects and programs.

The position would require excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Employee may be called upon to participate in the management of any of the Section’s day to day activities, including the operations of the Transportation Management Center and its related functions, special events and incidents.

The employee will be required to drive a vehicle to perform traffic engineering field work including visiting construction projects to perform field inspections and supervise work projects. This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Montgomery County Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Systems Technician I/II/III Grade 14/18/2  (Posted on November 14, 2018)

Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations, is looking for Transportation Systems Technicians for its Transportation Management Section, Technical Center at 1283 Seven Locks Road Building C, Rockville, Maryland.  There are currently four vacancies.

This position may be filled at the Transportation Systems Technician I, Grade 14, Salary:  $38,629-$62,768, or Transportation Systems Technician II, Grade 18, Salary:  $45,877-$75,653.

The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee.  Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

Employee will be involved in the construction, modification, installation, testing, maintenance and field and bench repair of transportation systems equipment on the ground and from extended heights in a bucket truck.  The employee is required to drive a vehicle to perform work at these locations.  The equipment includes a variety of traffic control, traffic monitoring and traveler information equipment, devices and subsystems (e.g., traffic signals, school flasher signal assemblies, variable message signs, lane control and channelization devices, fiber optic signs, traveler advisory radio system, traffic video surveillance cameras, data transmission techniques and equipment, etc.)
