Awards And Scholarships
Overview
ITS Maryland strives for excellence in chapter governance and achievement of goals of providing a forum for coordination, communication, education, training, and outreach among its members.
The Awards and Nominating Committee of ITS Maryland is responsible for managing the ITS Maryland Scholarship Awards Program. ITS Maryland recognizes the need to invest in the new generation of engineers, developers and policy makers who will be the future of the transportation industry. Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need, scholastic achievement, special interests/community activities, and prior achievements. This competitive program includes several universities in Maryland, DC, and Delaware, and encourages students from different disciplines to apply.
ITS Maryland, as an organization is proud of its accomplishments in the fields of networking, outreach, and advocacy, effective organizational and professional development, and strong and engaging chapter governance. Awards and Nominating Committee members are active in sharing their best practices and lessons learned with other chapters nation-wide and in this spirit the committee competes for annual ITS America National Chapter Awards that include Outstanding Chapter Award and Membership Growth Award.
Scholarship Award Criteria
To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:
Student Membership
Be an ITS Maryland student member (you may join at the time you apply for the scholarship)
Career Goals
Plan for a career in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems
Field of Study
Be enrolled in a transportation-related field, including engineering, planning, and logistics
Full-Time Status
Registered as a full-time student in the current academic year
Regional Institution
Pursue a degree at an affiliated university in Maryland, Delaware, or Washington D.C.
Academic Progress
Have completed at least one academic year of study at your institution
Good Standing
Be in academic good standing at your academic institution
First-Time Applicant
Not be a previous ITS Maryland Scholarship recipient
Note: previous applicants who did not receive a scholarship, but still meet the eligibility criteria, may reapply.
ITS Maryland Scholarships are awarded at the ITS Maryland Annual Meeting. The location and date of each ITS Maryland Annual Meeting is published on its website during each current year. Recipients will be invited free of charge, to be recognized during the lunchtime program and free to attend the technical sessions and networking events.
To become an ITS Maryland student member, complete the student membership application form and return it with your scholarship application. Completing the student membership application form automatically gives eligible students free membership to ITS MD for one year. The benefits of being an ITS MD member include networking opportunities, access to latest information on diverse ITS technologies and projects, and discounted attendance fees for ITS MD events.
Current Scholarship Application & Instructions
ITS MD Scholarship Application
The Intelligent Transportation Society of Maryland (ITS Maryland) is pleased to provide up to $6,000 in scholarships, with a minimum of $1,000 per scholarship at the discretion of ITS Maryland, for the 2026-2027 school year. We invite undergraduate and graduate students currently registered as full-time students in a university or a college in Maryland or Delaware to apply for the scholarship.

Pat Timbrook Memorial Award of Service and Achievement Application
Pat Timbrook Memorial Award of Service and Achievement seeks to honor a member of the ITS and transportation industry that has a record of outstanding service and/or achievement within ITSMD and the ITS/Transportation industry; has a record of volunteering, mentoring, and/or service to their local community; and be known for excellence, innovation, and perseverance in their field. This may be demonstrated through specific professional or technical society projects, achievements, recognitions, contributions, or anecdotes.

ITS MD Distinguished Member Award Application
The ITS Maryland Distinguished Member Award seeks to honor a member of the ITS and transportation industry that has a record of outstanding service and/or achievement within or for ITSMD; and is known for advancing the mission and objectives of ITSMD and has been an active member of ITSMD for over ten years.
